Tree plantation program of the Helpless Men, Women and Children Welfare Foundation in Chittagong 

The government-approved social development organization, Helpless Men, Women and Children Welfare Foundation, has organized a tree plantation program in Chittagong with the intention of protecting the environment and building a green Bangladesh.

 

The program was organized at 4 pm on Thursday (September 3, 2026) at the Diamond Touch Community Center area adjacent to the Bay Terminal of Chittagong Port. Saplings of various species of fruit, forest and medicinal trees were planted in the program.

The program was presided over by the Foundation’s President and prominent human rights figure HM Osman Gani Chowdhury. The Foundation’s main sponsor, Chairman and CEO of Bashar Group, Alhaj Abul Bashar Abu, was present as the chief guest.

 

In his speech as the chief guest, Alhaj Abul Bashar Abu said that the decision taken by the current government’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to plant five crore trees across the country is an important initiative for the environment.

He called on people from all walks of life and professions to come forward from their respective positions to implement this government program. He said, planting a tree does not just mean placing a sapling in the ground; it creates an opportunity for shade, oxygen and biodiversity for the future. He expressed his satisfaction to be able to participate in such an initiative.

At that time, he called on the Dhaka, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Bhola, Rangpur, Netrokona and Barisal district committees of the foundation to organize similar tree plantation programs in their respective areas.

Former Assistant Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Md. Mahfuzur Rahman and Advocate Enamul Haque (Moni), lawyer of Chittagong Judge Court, were present as special guests at the program.

In addition, the program was addressed by the President of the Mecca branch of the Helpless Women, Men and Children Welfare Foundation Md. Harunur Rashid, Senior Vice President of the Foundation Manjur Ahmed, Senior Vice President of the Metropolitan Committee Maulana Mahbubur Rahman and Mohammad Sarwar.

 

Leaders and active members of the organization from different levels were present at the program. According to the foundation, the organization has been implementing tree plantation programs in various parts of the country, including Chittagong, during the monsoon season every year.

 

The organization said that not only planting trees, but also care, conservation and long-term sustainable management of the planted seedlings are given importance.
