Gold prices in Bangladesh have reached an all-time high once again. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has announced a new adjustment following price hikes in the international market and increased local demand.
According to a BAJUS press release on Saturday (October 19), the price of gold has been raised by up to Tk 1,050 per bhori. Under the new rate, 22-carat gold will now be sold at Tk 217,382 per bhori, effective from Monday (October 20) across the country.
New Gold Prices (Per Bhori):
22 Carat: Tk 217,382
21 Carat: Tk 207,503
18 Carat: Tk 177,853
Traditional Method: Tk 148,074
Silver Prices Remain Unchanged:
22 Carat: Tk 6,205
21 Carat: Tk 5,914
18 Carat: Tk 5,074
Traditional: Tk 3,802
Why the Increase?
BAJUS stated that the new adjustment was made due to a rise in the price of raw (tejaabi) gold in the local market and continued price surges in the international market.
Global Record
Globally, gold prices have also hit record highs. With expectations of lower interest rates in the United States and rising economic uncertainty, investors are flocking to gold as a safe-haven asset.
The international gold price has crossed USD 4,240 per ounce for the first time in history. Analysts predict that if the global economy remains unstable, gold prices may stay elevated in the coming months.
