Although proposals have been prepared to form two new administrative divisions — Faridpur and Cumilla — the government has yet to make a final decision. The proposals were formulated based on recommendations from the Public Administration Reform Commission, but they still await final approval from the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR).
According to sources at the Ministry of Public Administration, the process of establishing the new divisions will begin once NICAR grants approval. However, no specific date has been announced for the meeting, and it remains uncertain whether it will take place before the upcoming national elections.
Proposed Districts Under Each Division
Faridpur Division:
Faridpur
Madaripur
Rajbari
Gopalganj
Shariatpur
Cumilla Division:
Cumilla
Brahmanbaria
Chandpur
Feni
Lakshmipur
Noakhali
Additionally, the proposal suggests dividing Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla to create a new upazila named Bangra, while a new police station is also planned for Matarbari, Cox’s Bazar.
Officials have stated that these initiatives are part of the government’s broader effort to promote administrative decentralization and expand public services at the grassroots level.
