Death sentence for sole accused in Comilla rape and murder case

The court has sentenced the sole accused named Mehraj Hossain Tushar to death in the rape and murder case of a 4-year-old child in Comilla’s Sadar Dakshin. In addition, the judge imposed a fine of one lakh taka on the accused.

This was announced by Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamol of Comilla District Women and Children Tribunal-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Accused Mehraj is the son of Ali Ashraf of Krishnapur area of ​​Kuliara Union in Comilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila.

Confirming the matter, the plaintiff’s lawyer Md. Shariful Islam said that Mehraj raped and killed a four-year-old child on December 17, 2018, luring him with chocolate. Later, a young neighbor Mehraj wrapped the body in a cement bag on the cornice of a nearby house under construction. The victim searched for the child that day, but the area was miked. The child’s body was found during a search the next morning. Later, the police recovered the body and took it for autopsy.

In this incident, the victim’s grandfather filed a case against unknown persons at the Comilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station. Later, after 14 days of police investigation, the accused Mehraj Hossain Tushar was arrested. After the case was pending in the court for 6 years, the judge of the Women and Children Tribunal-1 today sentenced the accused Mehraj to death.

 

Comilla Women and Children Tribunal PP Badiul Alam Sujan said, “After the case was on trial for 7 years, the judge sentenced the accused to death after taking the testimony of 18 witnesses. Accused Mehraj confessed to raping and killing the child in his statement. We believe that justice has been established in the verdict.”

The mother of the murdered child said, “I have been going to court for the last 7 years for the trial of the murder of my daughter. Finally, the death sentence has been ordered for the accused Mehraj. I am satisfied, but I want this verdict to be implemented as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, none of the relatives of accused Mehraj were seen in the court after the verdict was announced.
